We’re excited to share an important update that supports the well-being of caregivers across our state. Starting July 1, 2025, caregivers of loved ones with a dementia diagnosis who are strictly Medicare health recipients in Louisiana may be eligible for a $2,563 respite care credit.
Caring for a loved one with dementia is a selfless act, one that often comes with emotional, physical and financial challenges. This new benefit is part of the GUIDE program, introduced by Homedica, and is designed to give caregivers the vital break they need while ensuring their loved one continues to receive safe, engaging and compassionate care.
What the Credit Covers:
Caregivers can use the funds toward:
- Days at Bon Jour Social and Leisure Center – A vibrant and supportive day program for individuals with dementia.
- Dedicated Sitters – Professional, in-home care for up to four hours, giving caregivers time to rest or attend to other needs.
Who Qualifies:
To qualify, the care recipient must:
- Have a documented dementia diagnosis.
- Be a strict Medicare health recipient.
