FranU recently had the pleasure of welcoming a group of students from our sister university in Porto, Portugal, marking a significant step in broadening our educational horizons and enhancing our commitment to global learning. This cross-cultural exchange focused on different models of elder care in the United States, providing both the visiting and local students with a comprehensive overview of care strategies ranging from independent living to acute care.
The day was filled with discussions and learning opportunities, as students explored the spectrum of living arrangements for the elderly in the U.S. The morning session involved detailed discussions about various care models, while the afternoon was dedicated to showing students the different living arrangements for older adults in the U.S.
This exchange is part of FranU’s broader mission to prepare our graduates to lead effectively in a rapidly aging world. Understanding and managing the dynamics of elder care is crucial, especially as the segment of the population aged 65 and older is the fastest growing globally. By exposing our students to international perspectives and practices, we equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in gerontology.
This experience not only enhanced the students’ understanding of gerontological care but also emphasized the importance of cultural sensitivity and adaptability in healthcare. Learning how elder care is managed in different cultural contexts prepares our students to think critically and act compassionately in their future careers.
We are proud to foster such enriching experiences that prepare our students for the challenges of global healthcare. For more insights into our programs and initiatives in elder care, check out our International Healthy Aging Program.
